Discovering The Essential Habits of 6-Figure Bloggers will Motivate Every Entrepreneur
Why I read Sally Miller’s book, The Essential Habits of 6-Figure Bloggers.
Being a solopreneur is tough. But the title of this book, including the phrase “essential habits” both frightened and inspired me. I hate the thought of “deliberate habits” but ironically love the idea of what a habit is: doing without thinking. While I did not read this book with the intent of becoming one of those 6-figure bloggers, my goal was simple: be motivated as an entrepreneur to keep going and to ensure blogging earns enough income for the lifestyle I want.

Let’s start with this: I really dislike reading non-fiction but added this to my list of “books to motivate you.”
I’d read books to conform in a way if I’m honest. People in the corporate world are always “recommending” stuff and if you didn’t pick up the book, or listen on audio, I always felt like I was coming off as uncaring about my career.
This couldn’t be further from the truth in actuality. I didn’t want to read what others found valuable just because others found it valuable. Personally, I need to feel the need to read a specific book to really dive into it and, importantly, choose to spend time with it.
Enter The 4-Hour Workweek. This recommendation sounded like it made sense for me to read. I actually wrote a review of it, sharing the insights I gained. Another one on my list of books to motivate you.

Diving into The Essential Habits of 6-Figure Bloggers.
When I came across Sally Miller’s book, The Essential Habits of 6-Figure Bloggers, I had the same gut feeling as I did with The 4-Hour Workweek, and it proved true. The feeling that said I needed to read it. The one that shouted out: this could motivate me, for real. It could just be titled “essential habits for success.”
The book is set up to be an easy read and one you can go back and reference repeatedly. Miller breaks it down into sections covering 3 identified habits, incorporating 17 interviews.

Motivational insights from The Essential Habits of 6-Figure Bloggers
17 people cannot be wrong.
The sheer number of people that Sally Miller spoke with to pull this book together and inspire us, bloggers, and online entrepreneurs, shows this book can be an affirmation to your goals. In the scheme of things, 17 doesn’t sound like a lot but it truly is a solid sampling of success.
Miller asked these people, who are crushing it in the online world, the same questions and it brings motivation to any of us putting the effort into creating our own life by carving out our little corner of the internet.
Of course, 17 people can be wrong, my headline may seem over-reaching, but that said know that there are bits in each person’s story that will speak to you.
If you are looking for confirmation about your decision to enter the life of online business, you can not only connect some of the dots and answer some of your questions but get motivation from each person’s journey and specific advice for success.

If someone else has accomplished it, you can too.
The book lays out, right at the start, how difficult earning 6 figures can be. Funny story: I did a search online as I was researching questions asked about 6-figure blogging and BOOM- I landed on a blog post from Regina of Scrappy U that again confirms the insights from Sally Miller’s book.
- These things take time.
- You have to really be interested in blogging, or whatever your business is about, to succeed as an entrepreneur.
- Don’t fall into the trap that money comes immediately.

For me, reading this post was more motivation and ammunition for my psyche. The time it takes to build a life online is normal. I am not failing. Persistence, passion, and consistency will pay off in the end.
After all, this is about your why. Knowing your why will get you to where you want to be (along with some other steps of course, including taking action!). Ultimately, knowing the path others have taken, the blocks they’ve overcome and how they achieved the result, is gold.
Pure gold. Motivational gold. The reason this book detailing essential habits for success is on my list of books to motivate you.

Aristotle was correct, patience brings sweet fruit.
In the end, your business and your next chapter are all about you. Doing what you love and earning income from it is a fantastic goal.
The 17 entrepreneurs featured in the book turned their passions into a business. If you are committed and know your why, you can too. But patience is important in order to get to the reward.
Believe me, you’ll not only get advice from each featured blogger, but you also get motivation through knowing how much time it took them to earn consistent income and the habits they incorporated into their businesses, as well as into their lives.

Learnings from The Essential Habits of 6-Figure Bloggers
I repeat: Money is not instant.
Every single one of the 17 bloggers featured by Miller authentically share their journey to getting consistent monthly income.
The commonality: not only is it not “overnight,” but it isn’t even fast. Disregard the promises you see online that you can hit 6-figures in a minute. There is likely to be a catch.
Read this book and get truthful information and advice on getting to that consistent monthly income.
Even if it takes you a few months, or more likely at least a year or two, you can be motivated by knowing you don’t need to be discouraged, you just need to do the right things to move your business forward.

Purpose drives strategy and strategy is necessary.
Having a purpose is foundational in creating a strategy. To effectively adopt habits essential to success, mapping out a strategy can offer you a guide. It becomes fill-in-the-blank to create your own version of the 3 habits Sally Miller shares in the book.
All of the 17 bloggers interviewed shared this trait. Each one knew their why (or uncovered it). That “why” provided the basis for their business and shifting their mindset, step 2 on my 6-Step Checklist to Escape the 9-5, allowed them to create an impactful strategy and, importantly, adopt the habits essential to moving their business forward.

Don’t be afraid to learn new things and evolve your belief system about success.
A learning that really stood out in the book: every single one of the 17 featured bloggers were open to admitting they needed help at one point or points on their entrepreneurial journey.
Learning new things is required. I don’t care what business you choose to build your next chapter outside corporate with, there will be an aspect of it that is new to you. Examples?
- Technology (Have you ever built a website before? Edited video? Created email automation?)
- Legal (Do you know how, why, and when to create an LLC or other business structure? Is your content, service or product copyrighted or trademarked?)
- Social media (Did you know Pinterest can be valuable for more than looking up recipes and DIY projects? Have you ever created a hashtag strategy in Instagram? Have you ever built a Facebook group with the goal of profitability?)
And so much more!

Adopting the essential habits for success in the book is vital, make it happen.
I’m all about customizing your journey or roadmap so to speak. It’s what I do!
Collaborating with my coach is all about having a customized roadmap to my personal success.
We aren’t all wired the same way and while parts of Miller’s three habits are easy for me to outline for myself and incorporate into my world, other aspects are not. My coach ensures I have it all covered.
Weigh out your needs based on the habits in the book, then determine how to implement them. If you need help, don’t be afraid to ask for it. Or hire it!

Why I decided to write a blog post reviewing The Essential Habits of 6-Figure Bloggers.
Seeing how these 17 people did it will both help you and motivate you.
Also, my learnings and insights may be something you share as you read it, but you’ll find your own. Getting the learnings and insights that make sense for you, at this moment in time and in your business.
With World Book Day being March 3rd, 2022, one day after I hit “live” on this article when I initially wrote it, I wanted to share something that can bring value to so many of you aspiring to own your time that you can add to YOUR list of books to motivate you.

My goal with the Free At 50 concept is to motivate you, as well as encourage and empower you.
I’ve said it before, and I will again right now: people are the best resource. In my past lives this was a living, breathing, passion of mine. I worked with 4 other women to create what was the largest women’s business network in Mid-Michigan, connecting mentors to mentees through shared interests and goals.
In my corporate life, I spent over a decade supporting emerging leaders nationally (and in Canada for a bit!) to elevate themselves, their brand, the businesses they worked for and the people they had in their local networks.
With this blog, that passion carries over. I want to be your go-to resource as you build the life you want outside the 9-5.
